Academic achievement evaluations provide a focused assessment of a student’s current skill levels in reading, math, and writing. These evaluations are designed to identify strengths and weaknesses in academic performance, offering valuable insight for parents, educators, and students.
This type of evaluation is ideal for families who want a clear snapshot of current academic functioning without the need for a full comprehensive evaluation.
Who This Evaluation Is For
Academic achievement testing may be helpful for:
Homeschool families needing annual evaluations for submission to public school systems
Parents seeking clarity on their child’s academic strengths and areas of concern
Students applying to private or gifted schools that require academic performance data
Families monitoring progress in reading, writing, or math
What This Evaluation Measures
We assess key academic areas using standardized, individually administered tools:
Reading decoding (sight words and phonics-based reading)
Reading comprehension
Math calculation
Math reasoning
Spelling
Written expression
Reading, math, and writing fluency (timed performance tasks)
Dyslexia index indicators
Assessment Tools
We use nationally recognized academic achievement measures, including:
Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement, Fifth Edition
WIAT-4
KTEA-3
The evaluator selects the most appropriate assessment based on the student’s age, needs, and goals.
What to Expect
Appointments typically last approximately 2 hours for school-age students
Testing is conducted one-on-one in a supportive, low-pressure environment
Breaks are provided as needed, and parents may remain nearby during the session
Testing is completed at the student’s pace—we never rush
Results & Reporting
This evaluation includes a computerized score report with:
Age and grade equivalents
Standard scores
Percentile rankings
Relative Performance Index (WJ-V)
A written narrative report is not included but can be added for an additional fee upon request
Important Consideration
An academic achievement evaluation alone is not sufficient for diagnosing conditions such as Specific Learning Disorder (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia). If diagnostic clarity is needed, a comprehensive psychological or psychoeducational evaluation is recommended.
Take the Next Step
Academic achievement testing offers a clear and practical understanding of where your child is performing today. Whether you are tracking progress, meeting homeschool requirements, or preparing for school placement, this evaluation provides meaningful data to support informed decisions.
-
A comprehensive psycho-educational evaluation provides an in-depth understanding of how a child, teen, or young adult learns, processes information, and performs academically. This evaluation is designed to identify learning disabilities, cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and provide clear guidance for academic and long-term success.
These evaluations are also commonly used to support accommodations for standardized testing such as the SAT, ACT, college settings, and professional licensing exams.
Who This Evaluation Is For
A comprehensive psycho-educational evaluation is recommended for:
Students struggling with reading, writing, or math
Concerns related to Specific Learning Disorder (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia)
Students needing accommodations for SAT, ACT, college, or professional exams
Concerns related to attention, organization, or executive functioning
Possible Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental delays, or nonverbal learning differences
Parents seeking a complete understanding of their child’s learning profile
What This Evaluation Measures
This comprehensive evaluation includes three core areas:
Cognitive (IQ)
Establishes a baseline for learning ability and overall intellectual functioning.
Academic Achievement
Evaluates skills in:
Reading (decoding, fluency, comprehension)
Writing (spelling, fluency, written expression)
Math (calculation, fluency, reasoning)
Cognitive Processing
Identifies strengths and weaknesses in:
Attention and executive functioning
Memory and processing speed
Visual, auditory, and motor processing
Organization and problem-solving
Additional questionnaires and measures may be used to assess:
ADHD and attention concerns
Anxiety and depression
Behavioral and emotional functioning
Autism spectrum and developmental concerns
What to Expect
Testing is conducted over multiple sessions to ensure accuracy and a comfortable pace:
Ages 4 and under: ~5 hours over 2–3 days (morning sessions recommended)
Ages 5–11: ~6 hours over 2–3 days
Ages 12–17: ~7 hours (typically two 3.5-hour sessions)
Teens & young adults: ~7 hours (typically two sessions)
During the first appointment:
Parents join the first 30 minutes for rapport-building
The remainder of testing is one-on-one with the student
Breaks are provided as needed, and students may step out for snacks or short breaks
Testing is always conducted at the student’s pace—we never rush the process.

IQ testing—also known as cognitive, intelligence, or ability testing—provides valuable insight into how a child, teen, or adult learns, thinks, and processes information. These evaluations assess strengths and weaknesses in areas such as vocabulary, visual-spatial skills, memory, processing speed, fluid reasoning, and quantitative reasoning.
Results are compared to age-based national norms, helping identify patterns of strength as well as areas that may require support. IQ testing can be especially helpful for individuals who appear advanced or developmentally delayed, allowing for early intervention and informed educational planning.
Giftedness & Advanced Learning
Students who demonstrate advanced abilities may benefit from IQ testing to determine eligibility for gifted programs in public or private schools. Many gifted learners show early signs of accelerated development, and formal cognitive testing can help document these strengths and guide appropriate placement.
Beyond eligibility, these evaluations provide a deeper understanding of how a student learns best—offering clarity, direction, and confidence for parents and educators.
Developmental Delay & Intellectual Functioning
For children who may be experiencing developmental delays, early identification is critical. IQ testing plays an important role in evaluating intellectual functioning and supporting eligibility for services such as Developmental Delay or Intellectual Disability programs within the school system.
For older teens and adults, these evaluations may also assist with documentation for state services, including eligibility through the Florida Department of Developmental Disabilities or SSI.
Because developmental concerns often involve multiple areas, we frequently recommend a comprehensive evaluationrather than IQ testing alone. This allows us to assess cognitive, academic, behavioral, and adaptive functioning for a more complete understanding.
Assessment Tools
We use individually administered, standardized assessments tailored to each client’s age and needs, including:
WISC-V (Ages 6–15)
WPPSI-IV (Ages 2:6–7:7)
RIAS-2 (Ages 2+)
WAIS-V (Ages 16+)
Stanford-Binet 5 (Ages 2+)
Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities
UNIT-2
Additional measures may include:
Adaptive behavior assessments (e.g., ABAS-3)
Behavioral and autism-related questionnaires (e.g., ASRS)
These tools help evaluate daily living skills, social functioning, and behavior—often required for eligibility in school-based services such as Intellectual Disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder programs.
What to Expect
Appointments are scheduled for approximately 2.5 hours to ensure a comfortable, unrushed experience
The first 15–30 minutes include parent/family for rapport-building
The remaining time is one-on-one with the client, with breaks as needed
Testing is conducted at the individual’s pace—we never rush
If previous testing has been completed, please provide the name and date of the evaluation so we can ensure appropriate timing between assessments.
Results & Reporting
Verbal feedback is typically provided the same day (please allow an additional 30 minutes)
A comprehensive written report (PDF and mailed copy) is available within 5–7 business days
Includes a 30-minute feedback session to review results and recommendations
Your report will clearly outline cognitive strengths and weaknesses, along with personalized academic and educational recommendations to support success at school and in daily life.
